Eyebrows of Doom #3

Paulette Goddard. Talk about
"staring daggers" at someone.

Hollywood Harem #1

From the film Yankee Pasha.
Okay, this new category will be called Hollywood Harem and will include any odd photo of a starlet playing a harem girl or, well, wearing a weird little costume, including--let's see now--starlets in Biblical epics, starlets in so-called sword-and-sandal or spear-and-slipper movies, prehistoric starlets in jungle epics, starlets bellydancing, starlets playing Cleopatra or her handmaidens, starlets charming snakes, starlets playing princesses and Egyptians and stuff, starlets playing Atilla the Hun's wife or Lady Macbeth's milk maid, starlets dancing for John the Baptist's head, starlets in bear skin bikinis, starlets playing the Queen of Sheba and Delilah and Ali Baba's forty thieves' girlfriends and Robin Hood's girl cousins and King Arthur's granddaughters, and starlets playing pirate girls and gypsies, and any movie with sand in it that is supposed to take place a long time ago in some place warm where they don't have to wear, like, boots and winter coats and scarves and knit hats and longjohns and stuff. Okay? Got it? Cool. Here we go...
The lovely Linda Christian.
Tina Louise. Jeez Louise!
One from the silent era.
Little Debra Paget from, I think, a movie called Cleopatra's Daughter.
Dorothy Lamour looking all historical and authentic.

Girl-Girl #2

No comments. Just great pairs.

Glenda Farrell and Her Pre-Code Swagger

I just can't help it.
In spite of the stupid hats, I really like
Glenda Farrell. She had that pre-Code
in-your-face go-pi$$-up-a-rope get-lost
f*#k-you-and-the-horse-you-rode-in-on
attitude. A real no-nonsense broad.

See her in Three on a Match (1932), I Am a
Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932), Mystery
of the Wax Museum (1933), Gambling Ship
(1933), and the "Torchy Blane" movies.

Here she blows in Paul Muni's ear and ruins him (and me)
in I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang. I think she's swell.

Cool Dresses #2

Janis Paige. They don't take pictures like this anymore.
Veronica Lake was a tiny little clothes horse. She ended up as a waitress.
Adriene Ames.
Claudia Cardinale looking outstanding.
Miss Frances Rafferty.
Ziegfeld girls looked great in or out of great dresses.

Happy Birthday, Lee Remick

It's Lee Remick's birthday.
(I'm going to forego the usual mouse-over ALT
information because there are too many photos
today.)

I figure everybody should have a dozen photos
of Lee Remick.

Lee Remick was my father's favorite
actress, and it's easy to see why.

My favorite Lee Remick movies:
A Face in the Crowd (1957)
The Long, Hot Summer (1958)
Anatomy of a Murder (1959)
No Way to Treat a Lady (1968)
Hard Contract (1969)
Telefon (1977)

Sunglasses covering a black eye in Anatomy of a Murder.

Personal quote: "I make movies for grownups. When
Hollywood starts making them again, I'll start acting
in them again."

Can you pick out the fresh-faced cheerleader in this
promotional picture for A Face in the Crowd?

Happy birthday, Lee.

Girls With Pearls #3

Liane Haid in pearls.
In black and white it's sometimes hard to
tell if a starlet is wearing pearls or just beads.
Either one is fine with me, of course.
Bernice Claire in pearls or beads, probably just beads.
IrĂ¡n Eory was actually from Iran, but she kinda looks...uh...Italian to me.

Happy Birthday, Teri and Marie

Most of the time we remember Marie as a killer blonde, so I thought I'd try this photo instead.
Marie Windsor had a long career even before those
B-movies like Cat-Women of the Moon and Swamp
Women. Her first picture was Week-end for Three
in 1941, and she was in a Murder, She Wrote episode in
1991. She was also a great noir dame in Force of Evil
(1948), The Narrow Margin and The Sniper (1952),
and Stanley Kubrick's The Killing (1956).
Happy birthday, Marie.
Check out Teri Garr's autobiography for great stories about Elvis and the beach party movies.
See if you can find Teri Garr in this still from the 1964
beach party movie Pajama Party. She started out as an
uncredited dancer and was in five Elvis Presley movies.
Her playful autobiography, Speedbumps: Flooring It
Thru Hollywood, is a hoot. Happy birthday, Teri.
Teri was perfect for underwear advertising.
