Gay Guys Get Lucky. . .Sort of

This last one is from The Bribe (1949) with Ava Gardner.

They Call Her One Eye

Christina Lindberg
I found these pictures online while searching for gun girls.
This is Christina Lindberg, a Swedish-born softcore film
actress. These stills are from the 1974 film They Call Her
One Eye, aka Thriller: A Cruel Picture. I haven't seen the
movie and probably won't bother. From the other stills
I've seen, it might appeal to the Tarantino/Grindhouse
crowd. I like some Quentin Tarantino films a lot. Some of
the later ones are tiresome. He needs to cut back on his
caffeine intake. Way WAY back.

(A nice little side-by-side for you firearm fans.)

They Call Her One-Dimensional

Hedy Lamarr
Some said Hedy Lamarr couldn't act. Some said Hedy Lamarr was nothing but a beautiful face. If you asked her, she'd tell you that all a female star had to do was "stand still and look stupid." There have been great debates about her talent, but none about her face.
Hedy Lamarr was THE FACE.

What were they thinking? The publicity men of
yesteryear were either monumentally clueless, or
they were warped and hilarious. It's hard to tell.

Miles To Go Before I Sleep Part 2

The lady here with the GREAT hair, looking
all weathered and weary, is British actress
Sarah Miles. Her most famous movies are
probably Blowup (1966), Ryan's Daughter
(1970). and The Sailor Who Fell from Grace
with the Sea (1976). I like Sarah Miles best
in The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing (1973),
which is where the above photo comes from.
(And it's not just because of that partial nudity
in the creek scene.) Sarah Miles has sad eyes
that can smile and flash. And Sarah Miles has
GREAT hair (or did I already mention that?).
She also wrote a book called A Right Royal
Bastard, which is a cool title. And she appeared
in the 1978 remake of The Big Sleep with Robert
Mitchum. And she turned into a cute old lady, too.

Miles To Go Before I Sleep Part 1

Vera Miles
This, of course, is Vera Miles. We talked a little bit about her
HERE. I liked her in Alfred Hitchcock's The Wrong Man (1956).
I liked her in John Ford's The Searchers (also 1956). And, of
course, I just loved her as Hallie Stoddard in The Man Who
Shot Liberty Valance (1962). Vera Miles did tons and tons
of television from the 1950s to the 1990s. This is mainly a
photo blog, so I'll just leave you with her pictures. Enjoy!

I actually liked her in Hellfighters with John
Wayne, and hardly anybody likes that movie.
She had a role as John Wayne's wife in The
Green Berets, but they cut it out. Pity. She
might have given that movie some class.

Happy Birthday, Jan Sterling

Jan Sterling
Jan Sterling was born "Jane Sterling Adriance" in Woodland Hills, California. She grew up in London and Paris. In the wonderful 1950 women-in-prison film Caged, she plays a prostitute named "Smoochie." She walks down a stairway in Mystery Street (1950) and ends up a DOA. She's a gangster's girl in Union Station (1950) and Humphrey Bogart's wife in The Harder They Fall (1956). Her husband is a doomed longshoreman in Slaughter on Tenth Avenue (1957). In Billy Wilder's Ace in the Hole (1951), her husband is doomed in a cave-in. There is a wonderful scene in The High and the Mighty (1954) where Jan, playing a passenger in a doomed airliner, decides to scrub off all of her age-concealing makeup and start leading a cleaner life. It's a brave scene for any Hollywood actress. In Female on the Beach (1955), she gets Joan Crawford in trouble. In The Female Animal (1958), she tries to get Hedy Lamarr in trouble. In her later years, she turned to television and the stage. All in all, Jan Sterling was a marvelous actress.

Happy Birthday, Pamela Reed

Pamela Reed
Actress Pamela Reed was born in
Tacoma, Washington. She has a husky,
sexy voice and really big eyes. In her
third movie, The Long Riders (1980),
she played Belle Starr as a tough and
sexy broad. My favorite Pamela Reed
role is Nurse Norine Sprockett in the
the 1982 comedy Young Doctors in
Love. Her transformation from cranky
Miss Sprockett to the vivacious Norine
is really something to behold. If you're
the type who likes Airplane! and Naked
Gun movies, you'll probably enjoy Young
Doctors in Love. And, if you like westerns,
well, The Long Riders is surprisingly good.
The lovely Miss Reed also appears in a
television show called Jericho, which
I've never seen. Alas. . .

Happy Birthday, Jane Powell

Jane Powell
Jane Powell was, first, a singer, then a dancer and actress.
She was born Suzanne Lorraine Burce this date in Portland,
Oregon. And THAT, boys and girls, is one great pair of legs.
(The above photo, incidentally, makes a wonderful desktop wallpaper.)
