Sylva NOT Sylvia Koscina

Sylva Koscina was born in Yugoslavia, which may account
for the spelling of her name. She was credited variously as
Sylva, Sylvia, Silvia, and Silva. You can find lots of pictures
online by searching her wrongly as "Sylvia." She is best
remembered for her appearances in Hercules (1958),
Hercules Unchained (1959), The Secret War of Harry
Frigg (1968), and Marquis de Sade: Justine (1969).
Me, I like her best in Deadlier Than the Male (1967).
Anyway, her name is "Sylva" and not "Sylvia."

Had to Cry Today

I'm not sad, and I'm not crying. Neither is Anne Francis
(above). The Blind Faith song Had to Cry Today popped
into my head, so I went to YouTube and listened to it.
(Blind Faith was Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker from
Cream and Steve Winwood and Ric Grech from Traffic.
Had to Cry Today was the first song on their only album,
Blind Faith, released in August of 1969.)
I figured if any of you out there remember it, you'd
maybe like to hear it, too. If not. . .okay. Just a whim.

Ring of Everythingness

This 1961 publicity still of David Janssen and Joyce Taylor from the forest fire thriller Ring of Fire works on so many levels. I mean, there's the whole "starlets with No Pants" thing and the "Gun Love" subcategory business, the "Behind Ya" and "Uniformity" stuff, the WTF telephone pole pretending to be a tree and the sky backdrop to the studio floor, and the David Janssen-Fugitive tie-in. If she was smoking a cigarette and talking on the telephone, that would ring the bell on two more Starlet Showcase categories. If David Janssen was a girl, we'd have a Girl-Girl entry. And a red 1961 Pontiac convertible might help some. His shoes are all wrong for a forest ranger movie, but that of course is not the point. I found a few more stills from Ring of Fire. I've never seen it. The movie simply couldn't be as good as this publicity photo. But I guess we'll have to keep an eye out for more Joyce Taylor photos. Have a good weekend.

Warner Archive. . . . .YES!!!

Warner Bros., the studio that brought us Picture Snatcher (1933), Lady Killer (1933), Harper (1966), and a bunch of other great movies, is now offering DVDs of some of its lesser known library items, like for instance Angel Baby and the extremely rare 1965 Joey Heatherton film My Blood Runs Cold. They're charging $20 and allowing us to vote on what we'd like to see in the future from their library. There are less than 200 titles right now, but they promise that more are coming. I'm slobbering over the Warner pre-Code possibilities.
