Little Jobyna Ralston had big beautiful eyes.
She was born Jobyna Lancaster Raulston in
Pittsburg, Tennessee in 1899. People called
her "Joby." She appeared in over 70 silent
films, but is best remembered for the ones
she did with
Harold Lloyd. Because of her
lisp, she made only two talkies. You can
learn more about her at
Golden Silents,
Silents Are Golden, and
Silent Ladies.
Thank you for posting this blog! Jobyna is, at least in my honest and humble opinion, one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. I love to watch her and Harold Lloyd, I think she is by far his best leading lady. My only complaint is that none of her several "talkies" have been released, regardless of what anyone says, I would dearly love to hear her talking for once.
ReplyDeleteJobyna Ralston = outstanding
ReplyDeleteJobyna was one incredible actress and one beautiful woman. It is too bad that the urban legend that she had a lisp is all over the internet. Having looked at over 2,200 documents regarding her spanning 80 years I have yet to find one report with factual reference of her having a lisp. This is really too bad because there are numerous documents from the 1930s that state that she retired from acting to stay home and raise her son which is an incredibly noble thing to do considering her stature as one of the top actresses of the 1920s.
ReplyDeleteAnyone interested in her should start with the Harold Lloyd films and go from there, she will capture your heart too.
Can't get enough of Jobyna!
