Happy Birthday, Lili Damita

July 10th is Lili Damita's birthday.
She was born in Blaye, Gironde, Aquitaine, France (north of Bordeaux). She was born Liliane Marie Madeleine Carré and was nicknamed Tiger Lil and Dynamita. She appeared in 33 movies between 1922 and 1937. She was married to director Michael Curtiz (Casablanca, Mildred Pierce) from 1925 to 1926. She was married to Errol Flynn from 1935 to 1942. She was the mother of Sean Flynn, who did a little acting, became a journalist, and was captured and killed in Cambodia in 1970. Michael Herr (Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket) wrote about Sean in his excellent 1977 book Dispatches. Lili outlived all of them.
