Oh Bebe!

Bebe Daniels
So I come across this large picture of Bebe
Daniels, right? And she's a brunette, and
she's got her hair down. And she's wearing
really cute earrings and pearls, okay? And
she's in this really cool dress. Uh-huh. So
what the hell else would I do with it, right?
(It's a starlet emergency!)

Tell me do you think it'd be alright
If I could just crash here tonight
As you see I'm in no shape for drivin'
And anyway I've got no place to go

And you know it might not be that bad
You were the best I ever had
If I hadn't blown the whole thing years ago
I might not be alone

Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone but something might be found
to take its place

The Killers (1964)

Directed by Don Siegel.
Lee Marvin, Angie Dickinson, John Cassavetes, Clu Gulager,

Ronald Reagan, Virginia Christine.
Universal Pictures: 93 minutes.

We could debate Ernest Hemingway's exit from Planet Earth before this movie and Ronald Reagan's exit from Planet Hollywood after this movie. We could point out the many parallels between Lee Marvin with Angie Dickinson in Point Blank and Lee Marvin with John Cassavettes in The Dirty Dozen. Some might argue that The Killers is director Don Siegel's existentially inverted prelude to his later film Dirty Harry. We could discuss blind desire and soulless betrayal as a "daylight noir" sub-theme. But...

Lady, I haven't got the time.

By the way, September 30th is Angie Dickinson's birthday.

A Cup And A Smoke With Vera Miles

Vera Miles
Last week I watched Episode One, Season One (1963) of
The Fugitive. What a great show!
He's on the run from the police for a murder he didn't
commit, but he always stops to help out the ladies.
Bless him.
Vera Miles plays an abused wife that fugitive Richard
Kimble helps out in this first episode. You may remember
that Vera Miles also starred in the very first episode of
Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
Yes, we have slobbered over Vera Miles before.
Anyway, The Fugitive and Vera sit down and have a cup
of coffee together. And they smoke cigarettes. It sounds
kind of familiar, doesn't it? I love the lighting and the
photography. Of course, I love the black & whiteness, too.
