I read Miss Knef's autobiograpy "The Gift Horse" way back in the '70's. An at times harrowing life journey & she just managed to survive the collapse of Nazi Germany in Berlin, 1945. Irrepresible woman. Smoked too.

She made a movie with James Mason. In it Mason was a spy and she was friends with him. Her husband is an american in the in the USA Army. When the husbands sister comes to visit East Germany, Audry Hepburn, Mason befriends her and uses her to try to escape to the west, A Great Film. I learnded of Hilde from this film. I knew nothing about her but figured she was a victum by her outstanding performance. Mason is superb.
