The character Edie is one of the most comely of all screen women. Not sophisticated, not glam, not perky 'girl next door', not spoiled princess, not naive 'coming-of-age', not beach babe, not cracking wise, not flauntingly ambitious. If I had been born in 1930, in New York, as a Catholic, in black-and-white, I would have plighted my troth.
She was awesome in that movie, a fantastic actress, very believable and sympathetic. Next to her, Brando's performance was wooden.
