Angel Face Too

Mona Freeman
So I'm watching the DVD of Angel Face (1952) with Robert Mitchum and the lovely Jean Simmons. And you know that I love Jean Simmons and her eyes and everything, right? But she's wearing a bad wig in the movie, and that's sort of distracting and unattractive. And I fast-forwarded through some of the slower and more predictable scenes. Funny, I watched it a second time with Eddie Muller's commentary track, and didn't fast-forward through him at all. He does a nice job and doesn't take himself too seriously. I always enjoy his stuff. Anyway, then there's the film's "good girl" role, played by petite (5'1") and pretty Mona Freeman, and she really impressed me. She looks like a young Martha Hyer, but without the coolness or coldness. I thought Mona Freeman was an angel face, too.

She's a cutie alright. And the fact that she lounges around in that slip doesn't hurt things either, does it?

The interesting thing about that slip scene is that she's talking to her old boyfriend, Robert Mitchum, who has obviously seen her in a slip before. And he knows his way around her apartment kitchen enough to get himself a cup of coffee. All very casual. But it's startling in a 1952 movie.
